We were so excited to frame a piece of history for Macy’s this 4th of July!

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the national anthem, we framed a piece for Macy’s to present to Fort McHenry. Idina Menzel exclusively recorded a version of the “Star Spangled Banner” for the score of the 38th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks®. The framed piece included artwork as well as the CD recording.

Francis Scott Key was an American lawyer at the time of the War of 1812. He was trying to negotiate the release of an American hostage being held by the British. Although Key won the release, he was not able to leave the British fleet until the British completed their attack on Baltimore. Key witnessed the fiery bombs on Fort McHenry at Chesapeake Bay. Just before dawn on the morning of September 14, 1814 Key saw the large American flag waving above Fort McHenry in defiance of the British attack. This imagery inspired the words of this poem that eventually would become the nations song. In 1931 it was declared the national anthem by President Herbert Hoover.
