Caryn Krueger knows the art of arrangement. Krueger, a 17-year South Orange resident, owns CSM Art & Frame, a professional art-consulting, gallery and custom framing business in Chatham, N.J. For 20 years, Krueger has been in the business of art and displaying it well.

Krueger works closely with many local decorators and designers. Marisa Lafosica, owner of ML Interior Designs in Summit, explains how Krueger works.

“Caryn has the unique ability to highlight your individual style with her art. For example, she pulls pieces specifically for me to review before I meet with her and my clients and its consistently on target. Her fresh selection of emerging art in the gallery constantly inspires me, as I like to add unique art pieces in my clients homes,” says Lafosica.

Krueger finds unique challenges in the homes of South Orange and Maplewood. “The biggest design challenges in this area are the age of the homes,” she explains. “I love a good blank wall, but in the older homes it is a challenge to find large blank walls with no obstructions. Additionally when you go to hang art, they are usually plaster and lathe, which is extremely challenging, especially when hanging a gallery wall. We have expert installers on staff that are experienced in handling those obstacles.”

“I love to mix contemporary art in an old home,” explains Krueger. “It’s unexpected and has a freshness that opens up the home.” This summer saw Krueger brokering art of Andy Warhol and a framed work celebrating the Fourth of July for Macy’s.

Krueger does a good bit of gallery browsing in Manhattan and she appreciates the community’s proximity to New York. “I am always running in and out of the city for both business and pleasure. Its an easy commute to the city door to door.”

When Krueger is home, she finds art around her, as well. “South Orange is a rich, culturally diverse community. I love attending a local neighborhood party and meeting playwrights, actors, editors…literally down the street from my home!” Krueger continues, “The same can be said with the art community. While attending an Open Studio Tour, I am always amazed at the quality and quantity of talented artists right in my own backyard! I find it rewarding to work with local artists and feature them often in my gallery.”

Beth Stein of Beth Stein Interiors concurs. “CSM allows me to pull artwork for my clients that makes it look like I have been to numerous galleries. Lately we have been re-framing clients own artwork. CSM is so knowledgeable in conservation framing and refreshing their original pieces– it gives my clients’ artwork new life!”
